Description and History of Our Department

Balıkesir University was founded in 1992 and soon began offering education in various engineering disciplines. Within this process, the Department of Civil Engineering was established as one of the key pillars of the university’s engineering education.

Since its foundation, our department has aimed to enhance the quality of civil engineering education in our country and has trained qualified engineers specializing in core areas such as Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering, and Transportation Engineering. Over time, with its continuously developing infrastructure, modern laboratory facilities, and experienced academic staff, the department has provided students with a strong academic foundation.

As of today, the Department of Civil Engineering continues its educational activities with one undergraduate program, one master’s program, and one doctoral program, while also offering Double Major (ÇAP) and Minor programs for successful students.

Our Educational Approach and Curriculum

The aim of our department is not only to equip students with fundamental engineering knowledge but also to develop the practical skills required by the construction sector. In this context, courses are offered in the fields of Structural, Geotechnical, Hydraulics, Materials, and Transportation Engineering, while computer-aided design, structural analysis, project management, and efficiency-oriented engineering approaches are also integrated into the curriculum.

Course plans are updated annually in line with developments in science and technology, with the goal of graduating students who are fully equipped with contemporary engineering knowledge and skills.
